A visual glimpse of my spiritual journey

Along the Journey

Gurus & Teachers

Paramahansa Yogananda

He was my first guru. When I was 15 years old I found his book, ”The Autobiography of a Yogi” in Weiser’s bookstore which was located on Broadway and 8th street in the West Village in New York City. I started to meditate at that age because I was beginning to perform and I was very nervous. He helped me with that! Later on in my life when I was living in Venezuela, I had his lessons sent to me from the Self- Realization Fellowship in California. He appeared to me once in spirit while I was living in Jersey City but he scared me and he said that I was not ready. Most recently I received a message on Messenger from this guy that I didn’t know who sent me a picture of the book , ”The Autobiography of a Yogi” with my signature on the inside cover. I was so surprised! He said that he found it in an antique store in South Carolina and sought me out. When I finally got over the shock of this book coming back to me, I asked him if he could send me the book. He immediately responded that of course he could and was very happy to do so. He also mentioned that he checked out my music and said he really liked it. So he sent me the book and I sent him some CDs! It was a beautiful interaction! I’ve felt very close to Paramahansa Yogananda ever since!

Swami Satchidinanda

My next guru was Swami Satchidinanda. I learned about him from a very good- looking neighbor when I was living in Brooklyn with my mom and brother when I was 16 years old. I was talking with him one day outside and he asked me if I wanted to take a yoga class so my mom said I could. Yoga was so easy for me. In my first class when they asked me to do a headstand I did it. They were so surprised. I wasn’t because I had no idea that it was supposed to be difficult. I think in one of my recent past lives I lived in India.

Sri Brahmananda Saraswati

My next guru was Sri Brahmananda Saraswati. He had already left his body by the time I met him but he was my guru all the same. I discovered him at the Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York when I was looking for healing after my then therapist told me to let go of all my issues but didn’t have any idea how to do that. I did meet one of my spiritual mentors, Joan Suval , there. She was the channel for the guru and was one of the kindest people I ever knew. Although she too left her body, she is still very much with me. She named me Kala Devi through the guru.

Tirtha Maharaj

My next guru was Tirtha Maharaj. He was trained under the same guru that His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada trained under who developed the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. So, I became a Hare Krishna devotee and yes, I did go to the airport once to chant the Hare Krishna mantra! He was very kind and accepting of me.

Joan Suval

Joan was my spiritual mentor. Through her meditations, talks, and counseling sessions, she always guided me towards surrendering to the divine. She was and still is part of my soul family.
